Hondsdolheid
Cause:
Rabies is an acute viral infection. It is caused by the transmission of saliva by an infected animal (e.g. by biting). Eventually, it's possible that this will affect your dog's central nervous system.
Symptoms:
- Behavioural change, e.g. aggression
- Paralysis
- Hallucinations
- Hydrophobia
Treatment:
Rabies in your dog can be prevented by having your dog vaccinated preventively. With possible rabies, it is very important to act at an early stage. At that time, an antiserum can still be administered or sometimes even a vaccination can still suffice. At a later stage, treatment of your dog becomes more difficult or even impossible.
